Why Do We Figure Eight a Bridle?

Honestly, has anyone ever thought about it? Other than aesthetics, is there really any benefit? Truth be told, it seems more logical to me to not figure eight a bridle, as after I clean my bridle, I’d rather it be fully dry before I loop it together again (because, you know, mildew).

Anyways, does anybody know?

  1. it’s to prevent them from getting tangled up – especially if you’re packing up a whole bunch of bridles to go to a show or something. done correctly, the figure 8 will hold the reins in place and keep everything neat and tidy so that each bridle is easily grabbed up without having to detangle it from the rest.
